David T. Mitchell and Sharon L. Snyder are disability scholars who coined the famous concept “narrative prosthesis” in order to provide an academic framework for addressing the stereotypical representations of disability in art and literature. They contend that disabled characters can be traced in many different literary works throughout history, but they are mostly given symbolic and metaphoric roles. That is, the representation of the disabled has for the most part failed to depict their lived experiences and is a vehicle to communicate something to the audience about non-disabled subjects and the ableist society. This study analyzed “narrative prosthesis” and enumerated some of its examples in the western literature and culture. Then, it applied the concept to three anecdotes of Rumi’s Masnavi Ma’navi. The results of the story show that disabled characters are not the main subjects of the anecdotes, but are instruments in the hands of the narratives to further their plots; as a result, no major improvement can be traced in the positions of the disabled characters as peripheral figures.}, keywords = {Disability,disability studies,narrative prosthesis,Rumi,Masnavi Ma’navi}, title_fa = {معلولیت و بازنمایی آن در ادبیات: تحلیل سه حکایت از مثنوی معنوی مولانا با استفاده از مفهوم «پروتز روایی»}, abstract_fa = {مطالعات ناتوانی یکی از جدیدترین شاخه‌های نقد و نظریۀ ادبی است که با رویکردی نقادانه، بازنمایی معلولیت و معلولان در آثار ادبی را مورد بررسی قرار می‌دهد. دیوید تی. میچل و شارون ال. اسنایدر دو تن از پژوهشگران این حوزه هستند که با معرفی مفهوم «پروتز روایی» بر آن بوده‌اند چارچوبی آکادمیک برای تحلیل تصاویر قالبی و کلیشه‌ای معلولان در هنر و ادبیات فراهم آورند. به گفتۀ این دو منتقد، معلولان حضوری برجسته و پررنگ در آثار ادبی دوره‌های مختلف داشته‌اند، اما در بسیاری موارد تنها نقشی نمادین و استعاری برای آنان تعریف شده است. به عبارت دیگر، بازنمایی معلولان هیچ‌گاه در خدمت به تصویر کشیدن تجربۀ زیسته آنان نبوده، بلکه هدف اصلی آن انتقال معنا به مخاطبین در مورد سوژۀ غیرمعلول و جامعۀ سالم‌سالار است. این جستار می‌کوشد ضمن بررسی مفهوم پروتز روایی و برشمردن نمونه‌هایی چند از آن در فرهنگ و ادبیات غرب، آن را در نقد و بررسی شخصیت‌های معلول در سه حکایت از مثنوی معنوی مولانا به کار بندد. نتایج این پژوهش نشان می‌دهد معلولان سوژۀ مرکزی این حکایت‌ها نیستند، بلکه به عنوان ابزاری در خدمت روایت عمل می‌کنند، نقشی نمادین و ثانویه بر عهده دارند و نهایتاً تغییر مثبتی در شرایط حاشیه‌ای آنان حاصل نمی‌شود.}, keywords_fa = {معلولیت,مطالعات ناتوانی,پروتز روایی,مولانا,مثنوی معنوی}, url = {https://jls.um.ac.ir/article_43049.html}, eprint = {https://jls.um.ac.ir/article_43049_674f9b4cb7308ff3c69818d3f92828db.pdf} }
