The central question of this study concerns the status and evolution of literary-historical articles published in The Journal of the Faculty of Letters and Humanities, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad from its inception in 1965 to 2024. To address this question, and based on a descriptive–analytical method, the study first examines the journal’s management structure. The editor‑in‑chief, managing director, and editorial board are identified as the key policy‑makers who determine the journal’s intellectual orientation. In the second part, the periods of the journal’s publication are classified according to extra‑textual factors and internal institutional changes. With some flexibility, each decade within the examined timeframe may be regarded as one period. This section demonstrates the frequency and distribution of literary‑historical articles within each period. The next issue investigated is the methodological approaches adopted by the authors of these articles. Seven main approaches are identified: documentary–descriptive, documentary–analytical, comparative, generic, discourse‑analytic, theoretical, and reception‑based literary historiography. The study further explores the thematic domains in which the authors have addressed literary‑historical questions. Nine principal domains have been identified: biographical, epic, mystical, extra‑textual studies, typology, comparative studies, tazkira research, modern literature, folk literature, and theorization. Finally, the study evaluates changes in the degree of scholarly attention devoted to these domains across the examined decades.
