Regarding Abu Sa’id Abu al-Khayr, besides the existing references that are called “maqama” (book written about the life and sayings of a Sufi sheikh), there are other references whose whereabouts are currently unknown. One compelling evidence for the existence of these references is the unique and rare mentions of Abu Sa’id’s life found in some sources. Two significant features characterize the specific references: their rarity, and the absence of sources for any of them in the existing references. This study analyzes, critiques, and classifies these mentions. The results suggest that categorizing this type of source-less mentions into five sets, with the content of at least two sets being particularly significant. These sources provide additional information beyond what can be obtained from the surviving references, offering a more general awareness of the lost manuscript contents. It seems that authors of some ancient Persian literary texts have utilized documents that were either inaccessible to the authors of existing references or were deliberately omitted due to various reasons, including reluctance, suspicion, or weaknesses in the documents.
