Ardā Wīrāz-Nāmag is one of the most important works composed during the Sasanian era. Its narrative recounts a journey to the afterlife, written at the behest of the religious establishment in response to rising doubts and emerging religious movements. While the text belongs to the genre of revelatory religious literature, it also reveals the deep influence of both politics and religion in Sasanian society. In this study, the author examines the composition of the book and analyzes its themes using Karl Mannheim’s theory of the sociology of knowledge. Mannheim’s framework investigates how elite modes of thinking are shaped by their historical and social context. On this basis, the article identifies which historical and political factors played a role in both the formation and the writing of Ardā Wīrāz-Nāmag. As a representative of the Zoroastrian priesthood, Ardā Wīrāz embarks on a revelatory journey aimed at reinforcing moral and religious principles, seeks to demonstrate that obedience to the ruling order, the clergy, and religious tenets are the best choices for people and those who oppose or question this order are shown to face severe punishment in the afterlife.
